Where else can you go at 5.45am, punch to your heart's content and have a smiling face on the receiving end?

I continue to be amazed by the variety of challenges Sue sets for my body and her encouragement, positive attitude and enthusiasm seem to make the creaks and groans disappear, and I've been able to achieve things I never thought I was capable of.

I've gone from not having a sporting bone in my body, to looking forward to ball games on a wobbling surface and while Sue reminds me to keep that core stability activated, I'm helping her to count. The 45 minutes seems to fly by and the reward of a stretch, quick massage, best water in town and a red lolly are a bonus.

I feel quite sure that the time I spend training and the subsequent benefits, will mean that I can look forward to moving on from the "fit 40s" to the "fabulous 50s".

When my wife told me that she had booked me in for a free personal training session, I wondered what she was trying to tell me. I thought to myself "I go the gym already ... I exercise ... she always told me my love handles were cute .." However, I kept an open mind and arrived at the door of YTPT to be greeted by, amongst others, the one they call "Queen of Huffy Puffy" ... mmm, so where was the "King of Sweat and Grunt"?

Well, Queen Sue has truly motivated me to incorporate regular exercise into my life. She has even gone above and beyond the call of duty outside of YTPT by taking me running up and down hills which a year ago I would have called a taxi to take me to the top!

Before YTPT I didn't have a plan for health and so was not achieving the results I wanted. With my weekly sessions, the monthly newsletters, informative evenings and social get-togethers, there's no way "an old person will ever move into my body"!!

Since going to YTPT I have noticed an amazing change in my fitness levels!

Having been born with a leg deformity, exercise was never easy and rarely done! With a husband, two school aged girls and a busy, stressful job, I had little energy and was feeling pretty low.

I now do a range of strength and cardio exercises all suited to my unique physical abilities - I'm a natural at one-legged squats!

Training has certainly changed my life!

I had always thought I was reasonably fit, but once I joined by local gym, I realised how wrong I was!

Once I got to a certain level of fitness, I wanted to be pushed that little bit further and realised I would need a good personal trainer to do just that.

My initial sessions with Michael were filled with trepidation, but I always had fun and always left with a smile on my face.

I love the boxing, am coming to love push ups, but most of all love knowing that I am so much stronger overall. I also love the social side of YTPT with the information evenings and weekend get togethers.

I have found that I really look forward to my now twice-weekly sessions, and I'm now in training to compete in a half-marathon - something I could never have imagined myself doing. Now I can see that I WILL do it, and then I'll be looking for my next challenge.

I started training with YTPT after surgery for Breast Cancer left me with a distinct weakness in my left arm. In no time at all I felt an improvement, and within 6 months of starting, I felt I had achieved my goal, and had full use of my arm.

However, there was another milestone ahead - with the fast approach of my daughter's wedding, I wanted to wear a strapless dress for my MOTB outfit, and did not want any dangly bits on the upper arm, so I continued to train and exercise. I have always been fortunate that I have never had a weight problem, but the sands of time were definitely shifting, so I continued my quest to feel fitter and stronger.

Every couple of months I re-evaluate where I want to be in my life, and I am totally convinced that training with motivated, effective people is the greatest thing I can do to maintain strength, and in my case, good health.

My great thanks go to Sue and her merry little band of torturers!!

You can be fit and healthy, or you can make excuses.
But you can't do both!
